Westland Lynx

The Westland Lynx is British-built helicopter. It was originally designed as a utility craft, but battlefield and naval variants were developed, and the helicopter exported to over a dozen countries.

Prior to the Falklands War, the Argentine Navy had ordered ten Mk23 Lynxes, but only two were delivered before the outbreak of hostilities. The British then imposed an arms embargo, and the remaining helicopters were never delivered (and the Argentines ordered the Eurocopter Fennec instead).

However, it was in the British Royal Navy that the Lynx made its major contribution to the Falklands War:

On April 25th, 1982, a Lynx from HMS Brilliant (in conjunction with a Westland Wasp from HMS Plymouth, and a Westland Wessex from HMS Antrim) attacked and disabled the Argentine submarine Santa Fe in the fighting around South Georgia.
In the early hours of May 3rd, 1982, two Sea Lynxes fired Sea Skua missiles at the Argentine patrol gunboat, Alférez Sobral, hitting the ship with three missiles, and badly damaging the vessel.
On May 22nd, 1982, the Argentine patrol boat Rí Iguazú was damaged (and then ran aground) as a result of a hit from a Sea Skua missile fired by a Lynx.
On May 23rd, 1982, the Argentine cargo ship Río Carcarañá was destroyed by Lynxes, again using Sea Skua missiles.

During the conflict, no Lynxes were shot down by Argentine action, however three were lost when the vessels they were aboard were hit by Argentine bombs or Exocet missiles.
