Lockheed P-2 Neptune

The Lockheed P-2 Neptune was a naval patrol bomber and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft orginally designed for the US Navy but widely exported around the world.

The Argentine Navy purchased at least 16 Neptures of different variants beginning in 1958, including 8 from the British Royal Air Force. These operated as the Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Exploracion (Naval Exploration Squadron). By the time of the Falklands War, only 2 aircraft remained in service, and these were used for reconnaissance in assistance of the Argentine Navy's Super Etendards. However, a lack of spare parts and airframe fatigue forced the Argentine Navy's Neptunes to be retired during the war, and from then on, the Argentines were forced to use Air Force Hercules as improvised replacements.
