StingerThe Stinger is a US-built man-portable surface-to-air missile (MANPADS) that was used in limited numbers by Britain during the Falklands War. The Stinger was first used on May 21st, 1982, but the troops who were equipped with the missile had received little or no instruction in its use; one SAS solder had received training, and was due to train other troops, but he was killed in a helicopter crash on May 19th before he could do so. Despite these adverse conditions, the very first Stinger first did in fact manage to shoot down an Argentine Pucará, however subsequently shots were ineffective because British troops were unfamiliar with the weapon's recharging procedure. ![]() Here is some technical information about the Stinger:
