Sea KingThe Westland Sea King is a British version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter, built under license, and containing significant modifications including a different engine, British-made anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems, and computerised controls. The Sea King was used for a wide variety of missions during the Falklands War, including anti-submarine warfare, replenishment, troop transport and the insertion of Special Forces. A number of Sea Kings were lost including two that ditched into the sea, and one that crashed into the sea due to an altimeter fault. Another Sea King landed in Punta Arenas in Southern Chile, and was destroyed by its crew, although why it was there has never been explained. The worst incident involving a Sea King carrying SAS troops crashed on May 19th, 1982, apparently because of a bird strike, resulting in the deaths of 22 men.
